MAIZE Dress size charts and fabric required
Maize is drafted with a semi-relaxed fit for everyday comfort and easy wear. The bodice finishes at the waist and features elbow-length sleeves, with side bust darts to shape the garment over the bust and support both full and small bust adjustments. The neckline is finished with ribbed fabric, providing a neat finish and a comfortable, flexible fit. There are lengthen and shorten lines on the pattern to improve fit. Maize features a full, gathered skirt. If you would prefer less volume, check the finished garment hip measurements below and consider choosing a smaller size.
The Maize Dress was drafted for a B cup and for a height of 5’7” (170cm). If you are not sure what size to make, we would recommend making a toile to check the fit.

RECOMMENDED FABRIC
Maize is made with both stretch and woven fabrics – stretch fabric for the top and woven fabric for the skirt. The top part of the dress must be made with knit fabric, with no less than 30% stretch. Cotton-based jerseys are ideal, with around 95% cotton and 5% Spandex/Lycra. A French terry (loop back jersey) or light to medium weight sweatshirt fabric is recommended, as this is a good weight for pairing with the woven fabric of the skirt.
Ribbed fabric is recommended for the neckband (for extra stretch), although you can use the same fabric as the body of the tee.
For the skirt we would recommend a woven fabric, such as cotton lawn or cotton poplin. You could also use a denim chambray, linen or viscose.
You will also need:
- Matching thread: Gütterman Maraflex Thread works well with stretch fabric, especially for top stitching the pleat in view A. Gütterman Sew-all Thread should be used for the woven skirt construction.
- Seam tape (optional).
